Caption your love

Caption your love

You're planning on giving you're love, best friend, hubbie, a custom-made trophy. In a few steps we simplify things for you. Basically you have a couple of choices to make. You enter your choices in the 'Note' at checkout.

(PS: the engraved letters have a silver color in real life instead of the black letters that you see in the examples below. They are meant to give you an impression of the size of the engravement.)

1. What's the caption?

You can think of your names or the date you fell in love. But you could also think of a sentence that captures you two. In case of a best friend for example, you could think of something like 'The best of all besties', in case of your love you could aim for a short statement such as 'You’re my finest'.

Enter the caption in the 'Note' section at check-out. The costs are €3 per letter. The invoice for the extra engravement you receive after you buy the bracelet.

Be aware: this item is custom-made for you and therefore you can't exchange it or get a refund.

2. Choose the type

Would you like your message to be written in a modern type or in a script letter? A script letter looks like handwriting and a modern letter is a clean option.

3. One or two lines?

If you go for a sentence there's a maximum amount of characters you can use. If you have a preference of what words are placed on what line, make note of that as well. In example 1 and 2 you can see the difference.

Maximum characters bracelet: 20

Note: if you choose to engrave the bracelet, enter if you'd like the engravement to be on the front or the back.

Maximum characters necklace: 12

    Chloë

‘When the Harvest Moon collection was launched The Boyscouts approached me for a collaboration on my blog. I created several images with five different items. Among them was the Convex ring. I’ve been wearing it ever since. It’s like it has become a part of my uniform. It became a part of me.’

    Shais

‘A colleague at my previous job often showed me her newest The Boyscouts treasures and I was impressed since the items seemed to go with everything. I went to the website and started to fill my shopping cart. Pretty soon I bought and wore my first few items. As if the universe was playing with it, a job vacancy came along as head of production at The Boyscouts. I applied and got the job. Ever since I work here I’ve been taking combining items rather seriously. I even got an extra piercing so I could wear more earrings at once. It’s as if the shapes tell me to play with them. I simply can’t resist. Everyone else is already wearing the items the way they were designed. So, why would I do that too? I’ve gathered quite the collection over the first year as a proud boyscout but I’m not attached to one item in particular. I’m way too superstitious for that.’

    Lenny

‘Through a mutual friend, Marieke, I met Zelda. At the time Marieke and I had a store together and the town was buzzing with news of Zelda starting her own jewelry label. From the moment she launched her first collection we were drooling over it. One day Marieke and I decided to pop by the The Boyscouts studio. We walked in and watched the goldsmiths at work. I stood there, admiring how the Trophy Square necklace was being made. Suddenly, Zelda said: ‘that one’s for you’. I was stunned and incredibly happy with the item. This was five years ago and I still wear it with pride. Even though I’ve gathered more items over the years, this one remains a classic for me.’

    Mirte

‘I got my first job in Eindhoven at design agency Edhv. At one of their famous BBQ’s I walked into Daphna Isaacs (part of designer duo Daphna Laurens). She wore the most incredible necklace. I was so drawn to it that I sat next to her and asked her about it. I kept staring at the triangle and hexagon shape and how they were connected gently with a chord. It instantly felt like the shapes represented my family. Somehow, it embodied how we are connected throughout life. Whether you’re in the same room or not, we’re always tied together albeit loosely;  a comforting thought to me. Even though it was love at first sight, I couldn’t afford it at that time. But a year later, the necklace was still in the back of my mind and on a whim, I bought it anyway. This was six years ago and it’s a treasure I still hold dear.’

    Zelda

‘My favorite trophy isn’t for sale yet. It’s part of the Spring Summer ’18 collection. While designing the ring I fell in love with it instantly. I’ve long wanted to wear items in solid gold. The team figured: why not give this particular ring in solid gold? I got the present on my 38th birthday. Such a sweet surprise. We’ve had quite a tumultuous year with the brand, in a good way. And this day was one of those days when everything came together. Friends and family came to the studio, we put a table in our yard with pies and flowers and fruit. The kids were playing, later on we even started a little fire. I never started The Boyscouts for the sake of it just becoming another brand. I wanted to create a familial experience that everyone can be a part of. And it’s in these moments I’m proudest of what we’ve achieved together.’

    Catarina Mira x The Boyscouts

A collaboration with blogger Catarina Mira, highlighting our Trail Loop earring

Catarina: "I've started blogging because I felt the need to create something for myself. The purpose of the blog is to inspire others, share happy moments and have a space where I can display all my skills and passions. I first came across The Boyscouts in a shop I love in London called Goodhood. I was drawn to the unconventional designs. There is something very powerful in the simplicity. The great thing about these earrings is that they are a statement piece, they stand out even though they are so minimalistic."

We got it from our mommas

We got it from our mommas

    Meet our moms.

Like we said in the newsletter, there’s no mom as cool as your own. And since Mother’s Day is approaching we felt like a little tribute to the coolness of ours. The message? Don’t forget to give back. You can do that on any given day but this particular one we celebrate.

Let’s kick off with the boss-mom of the bunch. Zelda’s mom (right) was a model in the eighties and her smoky eyes were published in several magazines. Zelda: ‘She’s always there for me like a best friend. Her open-mindedness I admire, aside from that she’s just the coolest.’

Rose thought for a second about the question of what she adores about her mom (left) and then said: ‘My mom is the most relaxed and considerate woman I know. It might sound cheesy or generic but I love that about her.’

Shais says about her mom (right): ‘No matter how old I get, whenever I visit her, I feel like a little girl again.’

Lisette describes her mom (left) as honest and bold. ‘I can share anything and everything with her. She taught me to trust my intuition and go for whatever I want to achieve.’

Lenny says her mom(left) is much like a lioness: ‘She’s powerful and strong. She made sure we had everything we needed growing up. AND she’s funny, sweet and she’s always up for a party.’

Isa answers tongue in cheek (right): ‘First of all I’m grateful for the ‘eternal youth’ genes.’ But then gets serious. ‘Secondly, what I think is awesome – in the literal sense of the word – is that she always keeps evolving intellectually and characterwise.’

Mirte about Ricky (right): ‘What I adore about my mom is that she’s tiny and petite, but her clothing and vibe is nor feminine nor manly. Her natural beauty is all you see. And of course, she’s the funniest, sweetest, bestest mom in the whole world.’

Chloë: 'What’s so cool about my mum (left), is that she was a hippie and traveled through Morocco with that typical Volkswagen van, even though she had three little kids by then. She was determined to live a free and loving life, a mindset that inspires me daily.'

Linda: ‘I can always ask her for help, whenever I need her, she’s there. And she remembers the important moments in my life.’

Djojo & Versteeg x The Boyscouts

Djojo & Versteeg x The Boyscouts

Danny met Versteeg in 2012 in a nightclub in Rotterdam at a party called Disco Flamingo. They talked, decided to work together and became an item. The relationship didn’t last but they are a couple nonetheless. ‘Sure, we argue, but because we know each other so well, it works.’ Their oeuvre consists of dreamy rawness as they combine their photography skills with experimental make-up artistry. ‘In this collaboration we wanted to show how the timeless and modern design of the The Boyscouts fits men as well as women.’

    About Gender
‘Gender has always been a topic. We feel the liberty to experiment with the concept of gender identity. Our work raises questions about this and we like it that way, we like to start that conversation. First and most importantly, we feel there’s beauty in the human body. The esthetics of what people look like appeals to us. Secondly, we provoke ideas people have on gender and hope to eliminate preconceptions in the process. Mind you, we always approach the subject, or the taboo if you will, in a positive manner.'

    One vision
Rik is the photographer and Danny develops concepts and is the make-up artist. Together they have one goal:

‘To get people to think about something they otherwise wouldn’t think about, that’s what we try to accomplish. Our style developed over time, it has become more specific. We use humor, fantasy and esthetics. Our inspirations stem from gender theory, mythology and technology. Also the city of Rotterdam is a big inspiration to us. There’s so much freedom and open-mindedness, we woulnd’t want to be anywhere else.’

Djojo & Versteeg x The Boyscouts
‘We wanted to work with The Boyscouts because we find it interesting that the brand works with geometric, graphic shapes and yet it still feels organic. It’s like the shapes flow. It’s such detailed work and you made it look easy. However, we recognize it isn’t easy. It’s hard to clean shapes up like that and we admire that.

In the images we created, we tried to find balance between femininity and masculinity. The Boyscouts design is elegant and minimalistic and can be worn by both men and women. But jewelry itself is associated with a feminine softness. We wanted to contrast that softness with what we, in current times, consider manly. After we shot the photos, we applied analogue collage-techniques to add that extra layer that you might consider part of our signature.

(Curious about the result of the series? Visit our Instagram & Facebook page.)

    What’s next
‘What we’re aiming for in the future? That changes almost monthly. For now, we just want to create what we actually want to create and be able to make a living doing that. At the moment we both still have jobs. Hopefully that’ll change in the near future.’
